Abstract

Gestational Trophoblastic Disease comprises aspectrum of pregnancy related tumours arising fromplacenta ranging from premalignant conditions ofComplete Hydatidiform Mole (CHM) and PartialHydatidiform Mole (PHM) through to the malignantinvasive mole, choriocarcinoma and very rare PlacentalSite Trophoblastic tumors (PSTT) or EpithelioidTrophoblastastic Tumors (ETT) which have varyingpropensities for local invasion and metastasis. Thesetumors are the results of aberrant or faulty fertilizationof the ovum and arise from fetal chorion comprisingof both syncytiotrophoblast and cytotrophoblast exceptplacental site trophoblastic tumour, which arises fromintermediate type of trophoblastic cells. Malignant formsof the disease are collectively known as GestationalTrophoblastic Neoplasia (GTN) or tumour.
